Margaret Illman

Margaret enjoyed a 21 year career as a professional international ballerina having begun her training in the Cecchetti method. She was accepted into the Australian Ballet after 2 years at the A.B.S and became a soloist before leaving Australia to guest and be Principal dancer throughout America and Europe. Companies included National Ballet of Canada, New York City Ballet, La Scala Milan, Stuttgart, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Vienna Staatsoper, Hamburg and Dresden. Awards include a South Australian Young Achievers award, “Most Outstanding Dancer” by the International Critics Board and “Best German Dancer”. She also starred on Broadway as Victoria Page in “The Red Shoes” receiving The Theatre World Award as Best Actress on Broadway, the Fred Astaire Prize/Best Dancer on Broadway and a New York Drama Desk Nomination. Her career also included film and television specials were made of her work in Canada.

She returned to Australia mid-2006 to co-ordinate and lecture for the Classical ballet department at West Australian Academy of the Performing Arts and also studied Business/Marketing and Teaching/Assessment. Recently she received her Bachelor of Physiotherapy. Margaret continues to adjudicate nationally with Classical Ballet and enjoys coaching of repertoire, technique and acting, whilst incorporating her new physiotherapy degree skills.

She is currently an honorary member of Cecchetti Ballet Australia, UNESCO International Dance Council CID, Amnesty International and the Australian Physiotherapy Association/APA.
