Entry Requirements

Perth’s Leading Academy of Performing Arts.

Acceptance into a course is dependent on the applicant meeting certain entry requirements. These requirements vary depending on the course. Potential students can nominate their preferred qualification and choice of major in their application.

Principal Academy of Dance accepts applicants who meet the following requirements:

For Certificate II and III applicants:

  1. Preferably a minimum 15 years of age upon course commencement
  2. Must have a parent or guardian signature if under 18 years of age.
  3. Must have gained a Year 9 certificate or higher (if under 21 years of age).
  4. Pass the audition criteria.

For Diploma applicants:

  1. Preferably a minimum 16 years of age upon course commencement.
  2. Must have a parent or guardian signature if under 18 years of age.
  3. Must have gained a Year 10 certificate or higher (if under 21 years of age).
  4. Pass the audition criteria.

For Advanced Diploma applicants:

  1. Preferably a minimum 17 years of age upon course commencement.
  2. Must have gained a Year 10 certificate or higher (if under 21 years of age).
  3. Must have completed the Diploma of Performing Arts or equivalent qualification.

Audition Criteria

Once you have submitted your application and are deemed eligible for your nominated course, you will be required to participate in an audition to assess your skills. Whilst we will accept applications and individual auditions throughout the year, our scheduled auditions are held in November and January. The audition will consist of the following:

Dance Majors:

 A 60 minute Classical Ballet Class.

A 60 minute Jazz Class.Entry Requirements

A pre-prepared solo up to one minute in duration.

A short interview.

Musical Theatre Majors:

A 60 minute Jazz Class.

A pre-prepared monologue

One musical theatre song of no more than 32 bars in duration.

A short interview.

Acting Majors:

Two contrasting, pre-prepared monologues.

Group improvisation.

A short interview.
