Principal Academy of Dance and Theatre Arts encourages a life-long commitment to the performing arts. Combining world-class training with modern, professional studios, the Academy is the ideal place for ambitious, career-focused aspiring performers who wish to work in the performing arts and related industries.
Courses are tailored to provide students with the technical and performance skills necessary to reach their full potential in such a demanding industry. Students have the option to major in Dance, Musical Theatre or Acting at a level that suits their existing abilities. All courses ensure you obtain the required skills to combine all three disciplines to produce “triple-threat performers”. A comprehensive range of units is available within the structure of each course, creating highly skilled and versatile graduates, giving them a competitive advantage when entering the industry. Graduates have forged successful careers in musical theatre; touring productions; cruise ships; television and commercial work.
The Academy provides government accredited courses from Certificate II to Advanced Diploma in Musical Theatre, Dance and Acting and is approved to offer VET-FEE HELP to eligible students studying the Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualifications.
Principal Academy students receive the benefits of first class training from an exceptional teaching faculty comprising. Our trainers have extensive careers, performing at the highest levels across many fields of performing arts, and many are still involved in the industry both locally and abroad. In addition, students have the opportunity to work with visiting guest artists in masterclasses. This provides students up-to-date and relevant information about the lifestyle and work opportunities once they complete their training.
Each year, the Academy stages three productions: a mid-year showcase, a full-scale musical, and an end-of-year production. These are designed to not only give students performance opportunities, but to learn about and experience life in the theatre. Each show runs for multiple performances to mimic the high demands placed upon the performer when they are cast in a show. Advanced Diploma students also have the opportunity to study and develop cabaret skills and perform in professional cabaret-style shows with the opportunity to create a show reel of their work, using these performances as material as well as time in the studio.
Students spend approximately 35 hours each week in training and regardless of their major, will study dance, acting, vocal skills, stage combat, film and television. Principal Academy understands that the industry expects and demands performers who are adaptable and versatile. Being skilled in multiple areas increases career opportunities and we aim to give students an insight to as many areas of the industry as possible.
